Group Travel Accident Program

AirportWhen an employee loses life or limb due to an accident, the loss can have a severe financial impact on the entire family. Travel accident insurance can help meet any immediate cash needs that result, providing an extra cushion when families need it most. Group Travel Accident Insurance can provide as few as five of your employees with either 24-Hour Coverage or Business Travel Coverage. A number of optional features are also available, such as coverage for permanent total disability or loss occurring while wearing a seat belt. Just complete the questionnaire located on the bottom of this page and The Hartford will provide you with a quotation on a plan to suit your group's needs.

You can provide Group Travel Accident Insurance to all your employees or specified classes of employees, such as salespersons, corporate officers, department heads or employees in specified wage brackets.

~ Full 24-Hour Coverage

Provides coverage anywhere in the world for accidental injuries occurring to employees while at home, work, play, while commuting, vacationing or traveling on business.

~ Business Travel Coverage

Provides coverage for accidental injuries occurring to employees in the course of any travel on business, including travel as a passenger on a regularly scheduled airline and/or Military Air Transport flights.

Coverage on a business trip begins when an insured employee leaves his or her usual place of employment or residence, whichever is later. Coverage ends upon conclusion of the business trip or the employee's return to his or her usual place of employment or residence, whichever is earlier.

Plan Benefits
~ Accidental Death & Dismemberment

The plan covers a variety of losses due to accidental injury as outlined below:

Provides the Principle Sum selected for loss of: life; both hands or feet or sight of both eyes; one hand and one foot; either hand or foot and sight of one eye; speech and hearing. Provides one-fourth of the Principal Sum for loss of: thumb and index finger of either hand. (Note: The Principal Sum represents the Maximum Benefit to be paid for each coverage.)

Losses must occur within 365 days of the accident to be covered under this plan. If more than one loss occurs as a result of the same accident, only the largest amount applicable will be paid. Please note: benefit amounts reduce upon attainment of age 70.

Injury means accidental bodily injury of a covered individual that results directly and independently of all other causes from accident. Loss resulting from sickness or disease, is not covered. The accident must occur while this policy is in force.

Loss means, with respect to hands and feet, actual severance through or above the wrist or ankle joint; with respect to sight, speech and hearing, entire and irrecoverable loss; with respect to thumb and index finger, actual severance though or above the metacarpophalangeal joints.

Optional Benefits

You may also choose to cover all employees in a class for the following optional benefits at an additional charge.

~ Accident Total Disability

This provides a weekly cash benefit for up to 52 weeks while an insured employee is continuously and totally disabled as a result of a covered injury, and unable to perform all duties of his or her occupation.

~ Coma

This optional feature provides one percent of the Principal Sum for each month a person remains in a coma due to a covered accident.

~ Day Care

If an employee loses his or her life in a covered accident, this option pays an annual day care benefit for any dependent child for up to four years.

~ Education

If an employee loses his or her life in a covered accident, this option pays an annual benefit to any dependent child provided he or she remains an unmarried, full-time student in an institution of higher learning.

~ Excess Accident Medical Expense

Subject to benefit limits selected, this optional benefit pays for actual medical expenses arising from a covered injury which are submitted within five years after the date of injury.

~ Paralysis

Under this option, insureds who suffer a covered injury resulting in quadriplegia receive the Principle sum; in paraplegia, 75% of the Principal Sum; and in hemiplegia, 50% of the Principal Sum.

~ Permanent Total Disability

This option provides the Principal Sum, less any amount paid or payable under the Accidental Death & Dismemberment benefit, if an insured suffers a total disability resulting from, and within 365 days of, a covered accident. Payout can be made in a lump sum, or on a monthly or weekly basis.

~ Rehabilitation

In the case of a covered loss (other than loss of life), this option provides a training benefit for work the insured would not otherwise be trained to perform.

~ Repatriation

Provides payment for preparation and transportation of an insured's body for cremation or burial when covered loss of life occurs outside the insured's state of residence.

~ Seat Belt

This option provides an additional benefit if covered loss occurs while the insured is wearing and automobile seat belt.

~ Spouse Education

Upon the covered death of an insured employee, this benefit provides an occupational training benefit for the employee's spouse.

~ Therapeutic Counseling

Provides a benefit for counseling expenses arising from a covered loss other than loss of life.

Exclusions

  1. Suicide, attempted suicide, or intentionally self-inflicted injury.
  2. Sickness or disease (except infection caused by an accidental wound or cut).
  3. War, or any act of war, whether declared or undeclared.
  4. Injury sustained while in military service
  5. Injury sustained while riding as a passenger, pilot or crew member in any aircraft other than as provided in the plan of coverage.
  6. Injury sustained while voluntarily taking drugs which federal law prohibits dispensing without a prescription, including sedatives, narcotics, barbiturates, amphetamines, or hallucinogens, unless the drug is taken as prescribed or administered by a licensed physician.
  7. Injury sustained while legally intoxicated from the use of alcohol.
  8. Injury sustained while committing or attempting to commit a felony.
